Top End Wedding

Lawyers in Adelaide, Lauren Ford and Ned Pelton have just gotten engaged. While on this same day indecisive and insecure Lauren has been promoted to full associate at Hampton and Associates by her demanding boss Ms. Hampton who Ned refers to as Cruella De Vil, Ned has not told Lauren in she accepting the marriage proposal that he, ill-equipped emotionally to handle the work, has quit his job as a public prosecutor, he arguably only going into the work to meet his now deceased father's expectations in following in his footsteps. In her focus on her own career especially with high maintenance Ms. Hampton, Lauren has never noticed Ned's dissatisfaction with his job. Within Ned's desire not to have a long engagement, Lauren wants to get married in ten days in her hometown of Darwin as she is able to negotiate the time off with Ms. Hampton. Upon Lauren and Ned's arrival in Darwin, they discover that six months ago her aborigine mother, Daffy Ford, left her father, Trevor Ford, for undisclosed reasons, her whereabouts unknown. With what little information they have on hand, Lauren and Ned leave teary-eyed Trevor in Darwin to lead the wedding planning as they try to find Daffy, Ned funneling his newfound energies into this task, those energies needed as Lauren, who really wants her mother at her wedding, is the one more apt to give up as they seemingly are going on a wild goose chase. As they trek through the expanses of Northern Australia, the leads point them in the direction of the Tiwi Islands, Daffy's homeland where she ran away from at age eighteen on what was to be her own wedding day to escape the arranged marriage - something she only ever talked about in veiled terms to Lauren - never to have returned. With this new information in the context of their situation, Lauren and Ned can't help but reflect on their own relationship in the count down to their own supposed wedding day.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

In April 1805 during the Napoleonic Wars, H.M.S. Surprise, a British frigate, is under the command of Captain Jack Aubrey. Aubrey and the Surprise's current orders are to track and capture or destroy a French privateer named Acheron. The Acheron is currently in the Atlantic off South America headed toward the Pacific in order to extend Napoleon's reach of the wars. This task will be a difficult one as Aubrey quickly learns in an initial battle with the Acheron that it is a bigger and faster ship than the Surprise, which puts the Surprise at a disadvantage. Aubrey's single-mindedness in this seemingly impossible pursuit puts him at odds with the Surprise's doctor and naturalist, Stephen Maturin, who is also Aubrey's most trusted advisor on board and closest friend. Facing other internal obstacles which have resulted in what they consider a string of bad luck, Aubrey ultimately uses Maturin's scientific exploits to figure out a way to achieve his and the ship's seemingly impossible goal.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir

In 1900, Lucy Muir (Gene Tierney), widowed for one year, decides to move out of her controlling in-law's house in London to the English seaside with her adolescent daughter Anna (Natalie Wood) and their long devoted maid Martha (Edna Best). Despite the rental agent trying to dissuade her, Lucy decides to rent Gull Cottage at Whitecliff-by-the-Sea. She learns firsthand before she makes the decision the rental agent's hesitance is because the cottage is haunted, supposedly by its now deceased former owner, seaman Captain Daniel Gregg (Sir Rex Harrison). After she moves in, she does meet the spirit of Captain Gregg face-to-face. Because she refuses to be scared away by his presence, the two come to an understanding, including that he will not make his presence known to Anna. As time progresses, the two develop a friendship and a bond. Despite his statements to her that she needs to live her life including finding another husband, Daniel seems not to approve of any of the men that enter her life, including the most serious, children's author Miles Fairley (George Sanders). Because of his feelings for her, Daniel eventually has to decide if being a part of her life is more a benefit or hindrance to her in carrying on with the living, regardless of perhaps not being able to carry out his initial goal of realizing his vision for Gull Cottage if he leaves.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

On a wild and rain-swept late-November evening, somewhere at an empty stretch of road outside Ohio's merry Denton, blissfully-affianced, prudish, boringly-innocent young pair Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon) find themselves stranded on their way to visit an ex-tutor. Instead, the couple will inadvertently unearth the cross-dressing Dr. Frank-N-Furter's (Tim Curry's) spooky lair of inexhaustible oddities, just in time to partake in the out-of-this-world mad scientist's proud unveiling of his latest, delightfully extravagant, most daring creation: the ultimate male and the perfect sex symbol: the flaxen-haired Rocky Horror (Peter Hinwood). But, little by little, as the effervescent transgressive force gobbles up whole the unsuspecting visitors of the night, Brad and Janet slowly begin to embrace the potent fascinations of seduction, while an idolized Rocky roams free in the mansion. Who can interrupt man's union with the absolute pleasure?
